Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

The Jeep Wrangler is arguably the most customizable vehicle on the market today, with no less than 13 versions, most of which have two-door and four-door variants. You can choose your color, wheels, tires, powertrain, transmission, technology, and other interior options from there.

To get you started, we’ve compiled this guide to help you decide between a standard Wrangler, a Wrangler Unlimited, and a Wrangler Rubicon.

What does Unlimited mean on a Jeep Wrangler?

Jeep first introduced the Unlimited moniker for the four-door version of the Jeep Wrangler in 2004. The Unlimited name continues to be used today to refer to the larger, four-door versions of Jeeps.

All versions of the latest Jeep Wrangler are available as two-door or four-door versions, except for the Sport Altitude, Sahara, Sport RHD, High Tide, Sahara Altitude, High Altitude, and Rubicon 392. These are only available in four-door versions.

How much longer is a Wrangler Unlimited?

The typical two-door Wrangler in 2023 is 166.8 inches in length compared to its four-door variant that’s 188.4 inches in length. The width and height of the models are the same.

The two-door Wrangler, therefore, has a shorter turning circle at 32.7 feet. This is in comparison to the four-door Unlimited’s 38.8-foot turning circle. Despite the Unlimited’s larger size, it’s not much heavier, coming in at a gross weight of 5,400 pounds compared to the two-door Wrangler’s 5,000 pounds.

What is the difference between a Jeep Wrangler and an Unlimited?

The main difference between a Jeep Wrangler and a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is their respective sizes and seating capacities. The Wrangler is a compact SUV with two doors and seats up to four passengers. The Wrangler Unlimited is a midsize SUV with four doors and seats up to five passengers.

In addition to the difference in size and seating capacity, the Wrangler Unlimited has a longer wheelbase and a larger cargo capacity than the Wrangler. It has a smoother ride due to its longer frame and improved suspension.

The Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited share many features and capabilities, such as impressive off-road chops, removable roofs and doors, and a range of available engines and transmissions. Ultimately, the choice between the two comes down to personal preference and intended use.

What is the difference between a Wrangler and a Rubicon?

The Rubicon is a version of the Wrangler with an even more impressive set of off-road features. The Rubicon is designed specifically for off-road adventures. It is equipped with heavy-duty components, such as locking differentials, electronic sway bar disconnect, and rock rails, which provide excellent traction and stability on rugged terrain.

The Rubicon comes with a specialized suspension system, which includes heavy-duty axles, higher clearance, and heavy-duty shocks, to help absorb shocks when driving off-road.

It also comes with larger and broader tires specifically designed for off-road use, providing better traction and grip on loose terrain. The Wrangler comes with standard all-terrain tires suitable for light off-road use. Overall, the Rubicon is one of the most incredible off-road vehicles ever made.
